Foreign Language Training Benefits You Just Cannot Ignore

by Lucia Baker

Learning to sign for parents and toddlers is becoming popular in the US nowadays. However, not all parents out there understand the importance as well as the benefits of teaching their babies sign language as a means of communicating their feelings as well as their needs and wants not only to their parents, but to anyone in the family. This may be because of the fact that most people still believe in certain myths about baby signing. Here are some of the most common myths about it:

* Babies who are learning or have learned sign language learn to talk slower - There is no truth to this myth. In fact, learning sign language can help babies in learning to talk faster. Always remember that sign language does not intend to replace verbal communication, but helps your baby to communicate well during the early stages where it is still difficult for them to say what they need and what they feel. Babies who also know signs were reported to have learned spoken language faster than babies that do not know how to sign.

* Babies who know how to sign are being pushed too hard - A lot of people who do not understand sign language believe that they are pushing their babies too hard in doing so because they learn a skill that is untraditional. Well, the truth is, it is normal for babies to do some gestures in order to express themselves. So, what you need to do as parents is to just enhance it and teach them the right way to do it. It is a natural process that do not cause stress to babies at all as long as the parents are proactive in the child's learning and development.

* It only confuses the baby- Some people believe that the process will only confuse babies because they are too young to understand what you are trying to say. Well, it is only normal for babies not to understand how to sign at first, but as you continue to teach your baby you will surely be surprised to see that your baby will learn it fast and easy. You should not expect a baby to start responding back to you in signs at the age of 3 months, but as time goes on and if you are consistent with the training, you should start seeing results at 6 months.

* Babies can't sign because they are too young to do so - The majority of people who believe in this myth are basically those people who haven't seen one yet. Many people think that babies only make some meaningless gestures and are not aware that their babies are trying to communicate already. Babies learn to wave bye-bye and shake the heads no at a very young age. This is just a strategy to expand their skills.

* It is just a trend - Many people believe that it's only a trend that will just pass by, but the truth is that it has been there for almost 100 years. A lot of speech therapists have also been using sign language for years as well. Many deaf and mute parents have been teaching their children how to sign for many years now!

So in the end, you should not only look at a company's supposed experience or credentials, but you should endeavor to verify the above factors as well. This way you can be confident that the language translation services you get are on par with your needs.
